Your First Massage in Bangkok: What to Expect on the Day
By Zen Massage · 5 Jun 2026
If you have never booked a professional massage before — or never one away from home — the not-knowing is usually the only awkward part. You are tired from the flight, stiff from a day of meetings, and the last thing you want is to feel like you are getting something subtly wrong.
There is nothing to get wrong. A first visit is straightforward, unhurried, and entirely led by you. Here is how it works, from making contact to settling back into your evening — whether you come to our studio or we come to your hotel.
First decision: come to us, or we come to you
The first thing to settle is where the massage happens. Both options give you the same treatment and the same therapists; the difference is purely one of convenience.
Incall means you come to our studio on Sukhumvit Soi 20, a short walk from BTS Asok and MRT Sukhumvit. It is a calm, private space set up for exactly this, and a good choice if you would like to step away from the hotel for an hour and let someone else hold the surroundings.
Outcall means a trained therapist comes to you — to your hotel room or residence anywhere in central Bangkok — bringing linens, oils and a portable mat. For most guests passing through for work, this is the easier path: nothing to arrange, nowhere to travel to, and you can go straight from the table to bed. It is our speciality, and the reason most first-timers on a work trip choose it.

Booking your first session
Getting in touch is deliberately simple. Message us on LINE at @zenmassagebangkok, on Telegram at @zenbangkok, or call +66 (0) 65 123 1542. Our team is available around the clock across all three and tends to reply within minutes.
When you message, it helps to mention three things: where you are staying, roughly when you would like the session, and how long it should run. First-timers most often book 60 or 90 minutes — long enough to cover the areas that need it without rushing. A 120-minute session is there if you would prefer something more unhurried.
Not sure which treatment to ask for? Just describe how you feel. Whether you want to be limbered up or sent gently to sleep, tell us that, and we will suggest the right option — a traditional Thai massage, an aromatherapy oil massage, a focused head, neck and shoulder treatment, or foot massage and reflexology.
What to wear
There is no special preparation, and you do not need to bring anything.
For a traditional Thai massage, wear loose, comfortable clothing — the therapist guides you through gentle assisted stretches, fully clothed. For an aromatherapy oil massage, you undress to your own comfort and are kept properly draped with towels throughout, with only the area being worked on uncovered. A head, neck and shoulder or foot massage is fully clothed — handy when you are short on time between commitments.
If you have booked outcall, a clean, quiet corner of your room is all that is needed. We arrive with everything else.
What we bring to your room
For an outcall visit, the therapist arrives self-contained, so your room becomes the treatment space with no effort on your part.
- Fresh linensClean sheets and towels for every visit
- Massage oilsFor aromatherapy oil treatments
- A portable matSet up wherever there is a little floor space
- Everything elseYou only need to be there — nothing to prepare
Setting up takes only a few minutes, and the therapist will arrange things quietly while you finish getting comfortable.
Arrival, session and aftercare
However you have chosen to do it, the shape of the visit is the same. Three unhurried stages, all moving at your pace.
Arrival and settling in
Whether you arrive at the studio or open the door to your therapist, the first few minutes are about getting comfortable. You will be offered water and a moment to settle. This is the time to mention anything that helps — a stiff lower back, a tender shoulder, an old injury to work around, or an area you would rather leave alone. The more you share, the better the session is tailored to you.
The session itself
Once you are settled, you can let go and breathe. There is no script to follow and nothing you need to do. Pressure is always yours to set — if something feels too firm or too light, say so at any point and the therapist will adjust, just as you can ask for more time on one area or to skip another. Most people find that within a few minutes they have stopped thinking about the day at all.
Easing back in
When the session ends, there is no rush to be anywhere. Get up slowly, drink some water, and give yourself a few unhurried minutes before stepping back into the evening. It is normal to feel pleasantly heavy and a little sleepy — that is the body settling, not a sign that anything is amiss. If you booked an evening outcall, this is the moment to do very little: many guests find they sleep unusually well on the night of a session.
A calmer first visit than you expect
There is very little to a first visit beyond turning up — or opening the door — and letting someone experienced take it from there. Tell us how you feel, set the pressure to your liking, and the rest looks after itself. If you are in Bangkok for a few days and unsure where to begin, outcall is the gentlest introduction: no travel, no arrangements, and a therapist at your room within about half an hour of your message.
First-visit questions
Should I choose incall or outcall for a first visit?
Either works equally well, and the treatment is identical. Most first-timers on a work trip choose outcall for the convenience — nothing to arrange, nowhere to travel to. If you would rather step away from the hotel, the studio on Sukhumvit Soi 20 is a short walk from BTS Asok and MRT Sukhumvit, open daily from 10am until late.
How long should my first session be?
First-timers most often book 60 or 90 minutes. Sixty minutes is comfortable for covering the main areas without rushing; ninety gives the therapist room to work more slowly. A 120-minute session is available if you would like something more unhurried.
What do I wear?
For a traditional Thai massage, loose, comfortable clothing, as the work is done fully clothed. For an aromatherapy oil massage, you undress to your own comfort and are kept properly draped with towels throughout — only the area being worked on is uncovered. Head, neck and shoulder or foot treatments are fully clothed.
What do you bring for an outcall visit?
Everything needed: fresh linens, oils and a portable mat. You only need a clean, quiet corner of your room. Setup takes a few minutes, and the therapist arranges it quietly while you get comfortable.
What if the pressure is too firm?
Just say so. The pressure is always yours to set, and you can ask for firmer, softer, more time on one area, or to skip another, at any point during the session.
